Almost all of my short stories appear in Zombies Need Brains, LLC. (ZNB) anthologies. The main reason for this is that, with the exception of “Under My Cypresses”, I only write short stories for ZNB. Why? Well, my brother, Joshua Palmatier, owns ZNB and encourages me to submit stories to the open call. Being a good brother, I pick one or two of the anthologies and write a story for them. The editors at ZNB have accepted about a third of my submissions, savagely rejecting the rest despite my sharing a last name with the owner. They almost always pick my humorous stories, which is what steered me into attempting a humorous novel, which turned into Tunnels of Torment.
This yearly focus on producing short stories for ZNB turned out to be fortuitous because it kept me writing in short form and allowed me to produce “Under My Cypresses” when the time came. So, thank you, Josh, for keeping me buff on the short stuff!
